Our musicians represent a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Many are former participants in All-District, All-State and collegiate bands who now serve the community through music while continuing their personal artistic growth. WSW provides a valuable opportunity for adult musicians to remain engaged with their craft in a collaborative and supportive environment. 

WSW's commitment to community outreach includes masterclasses, open rehearsals, and guest artist visits to local schools We actively seek to bridge the gap between aspiring young musicians and seasoned professionals. We feature guest artists from around the world, offering invaluable experiences that would otherwise require extensive travel.

🎄 In December, members of WSW were honored to perform at the Rotary Club of Wilmington’s Christmas party, sharing festive music that added warmth and celebration to the afternoon. Their performance showcased the talent, dedication, and spirit of our musicians while helping to make the holiday gathering truly special. Gwen Fitzpatrick, our president, addressed members of the Rotary Club of Wilmington to share more about WSW and our mission. She highlighted our commitment to musical excellence, community engagement, and supporting music education for students throughout our area. Following the performance, the Rotary Club generously presented WSW with a donation in support of our program. We are incredibly grateful for their continued encouragement and investment in music education within our community.

🎺 In February, WSW members volunteered at New Hanover County Schools’ first Instrument Discovery Night for 5th graders. The event was designed to support music education and spark excitement about joining band. Our musicians guided students in how to properly hold instruments and produce their first sounds, giving them the opportunity to try as many instruments as they wished. Just as importantly, volunteers shared personal stories with families about how being in band has shaped their confidence, friendships, leadership skills, and overall growth.
