As the Wilmington Symphonic Winds continues its 11th season, we invite you to join us for AMERICAN DANCES, a program that celebrates movement, rhythm, and the many voices that shape American musical life. We open with Bruce Broughton’s Silverado, a cinematic portrayal of the American West—bold, expansive, and driven by the energy of frontier life. Julie Giroux’s One Life Beautiful follows, offering a lyrical and introspective moment that reflects on the beauty, fragility, and resilience of the human spirit.
The program continues with Ron Nelson’s Danza Capriccio, a rhythmically charged and virtuosic work that bursts with color and motion. William Schuman’s Chester then draws on a Revolutionary-era hymn tune, transforming it into a powerful statement of unity, resolve, and shared purpose rooted in America’s early history.
We conclude with Robert Russell Bennett’s Suite of Old American Dances, a cornerstone of the wind band repertoire inspired by traditional American social dances. With warmth, wit, and unmistakable Americana, Bennett’s suite brings the concert to a joyful close, celebrating community, tradition, and the enduring spirit of American dance.
Admission to this concert is FREE! We will happily accept donations to support future programming. Unlike our usual concerts, you do not need a ticket to attend this time.
